Chase Lunceford (Clinton) hit three home runs in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday to lead the No. 1 ranked Hinds Community College baseball team to a two-game sweep over Pearl River Community College in Poplarville.

Hinds, ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll, defeated Pearl River in game one, 14-3, before winning the nightcap 8-1 on Tuesday.

The Eagles (24-1 overall, 11-1 in the MACJC) were set to host Holmes Community College on Good Friday, but due to incoming weather, the doubleheader will now be played at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond.

Lunceford's three home runs give him a team-leading four on the season and his offensive outburst led the Eagles to a win in a contest that was called after eight innings due to the mercy rule.

Jonathan Washam (Sterlington, La.) also had three hits in the opener to help lead the charge in support of pitcher Randy Bell (Woodville), who moved to 6-0 after tossing five innings and allowing only three runs while striking out four hitters.

Houston Case (Brookhaven) was outstanding once again in game two, as the right-hander moved to 4-1 on the season after throwing six innings and striking out seven batters, while only allowing one hit.

It was the second consecutive one-hit outing for Case, as he held the East Central Warriors to one hit in 6.1 innings in his start in Decatur a week ago.

Washam had another big game at the plate in yesterday's nightcap, finishing with three hits and an RBI to help the Eagles cruise to an 8-1 victory.

Matt Jones (Madison) also pitched in with a home run, single and two RBI.

The Eagles, who have gone 60-14 in their last 74 games, also picked up a doubleheader sweep at Coahoma Community College on Saturday.

Marshall Boggs (Cleveland) was the offensive standout in the opener, a 14-2 win that was called after seven innings due to the mercy rule. The first baseman was 3-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

Hunter Bell (Vicksburg), Tyler Cox (Brandon), Kyle O'Keefe (Madison) and Jordan Washam (Sterlington, La.) each had two hits apiece to provide loads of offensive help in the 12-run victory.

Derek Martin (Flora) moved to 4-0 on the season after throwing 5.2 innings and collecting three strikeouts, while not allowing a single run to cross the plate.

Boggs once again led the way in the second game, a 5-1 win for the Eagles over Coahoma, by going 1-4 with three RBI.

Casey Sutton (Monroe, La.) remained perfect (3-0) after going four innings on the mound and allowing only one run to score. The right-hander also picked up four strikeouts in the win.
