Baseball DH at Jones moved up to Tuesday

Adam Jackson (19)

The Hinds Community College Eagles were scheduled to head to Ellisville on Wednesday to take on the Jones County Junior College baseball team, but the games will now be played at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Community Bank Park in Ellisville.

The games were originally scheduled for Wednesday, but have been moved up a day because of the possibility of rain.

The Eagles of Hinds are coming off a week of doubleheader sweeps versus Northwest Community College on Saturday, April 23 and Southwest Community College on Tuesday, April 19 to finish a 2-2 week.

The Eagles dropped game one, 4-3, to Northwest on Saturday in Senatobia before claiming the nightcap, 5-3, to advance to 23-17 overall and 15-9 in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC).

Hinds won game one, 7-0, at home versus Southwest before falling in the nightcap, 5-3, to get the two game split on April 19.

In game two at Northwest on Saturday, the Eagles got three consecutive doubles from Will Craft (Hernando, Hunter Bell (Vicksburg) and Acy Owen (Brandon) to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning and move ahead for the eventual 5-3 victory in the finale.

Bell also had a solo homer, his first, to give Hinds a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning and he finished the second game going 2-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Carlisle Koestler (Vicksburg) earned the win in the second game versus Northwest, moving to 9-3 with the victory.

Northwest won the opener, 4-3, on a walk-off fielder's choice on a play at home plate that sparked controversy, but led to the game winner for the Rangers.

Chase Cockrell (Bastrop, La.) and Craft each had a hit and an RBI to lead the Hinds offense.

Timothy Jordan (Laurel) took the tough loss in the opener, despite going 4.1 innings in relief and allowing only one run and one hit. He fell to 2-3 on the season.

In Tuesday's first game versus Southwest, the Eagles received a standout pitching performance from Adam Jackson (Clinton), who led Hinds to a 7-0 win after going seven shutout innings and allowing only five hits and one walk, while striking out six hitters to move to 3-1 on the season.

Dylan Henderson (Brandon) added two scoreless innings of relief work and picked up two strikeouts to preserve the shutout in the opener.

Kyle O'Keefe (Madison) was 2-5 with two RBI and two runs scored on the strength of a two-run home run and was joined in the home run barrage by Cockrell and Hunter Wilson (Brandon), who each added two-run shots of their own.

Quinton Logan (Natchez) and Owen both collected a hit and an RBI in game two versus the Bears, but the offensive attack could not muster enough runs and allowed Southwest to pick up the 5-2 victory and split of the two-game set.

The loss spoiled a stellar starting effort from Layne Tedder (Vicksburg), who threw five scoreless innings and got two strikeouts while scattering five hits, but was given a no decision.

Koestler took the defeat on the hill in his third loss of the season.

Hinds will return home on Friday, hosting Mississippi Delta Community College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader in the final regular season games of the 2016 season.
