The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state baseball playoffs get underway on Friday and the Hinds Community College Eagles will head to Senatobia to take on Northwest Community College in a best two-of-three series.

The Eagles of Hinds will take on the Rangers of Northwest at 6 p.m. on Friday evening in game one at Jim Miles Field, with game two getting underway on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Game three, if necessary, will follow at 6 p.m. on Saturday night.

Hinds will enter the first round of the playoffs as the number five seed in the MACJC, while NWCC comes in as the number four seed, thus earning the right to host the opening round.

The Eagles come into the playoffs with a 24-20 overall mark and 16-12 finish in MACJC play after a week in which the team split a doubleheader on the road at Jones County Junior College and lost a two-game set to Mississippi Delta Community College on Friday afternoon in Raymond.

Hinds defeated JCJC, 4-3, in game one in Ellisville on Tuesday, April 26, before falling in the nightcap, 6-2.

In game one at JCJC on Tuesday, it was Hunter Wilson (Brandon) that led the offensive attack, as he was 3-4 with a solo home run.

Jackson Mitchell (Brandon) and Kyle O'Keefe (Madison) each pitched in with two hits and an RBI in the opening game win.

Adam Jackson (Clinton) started the contest on the mound and gave the Eagles five solid innings of work, as the freshman left-hander gave up three runs (one earned) and picked up a strikeout.

Brandon Ross (Natchez) was magnificent in relief and moved to 1-1 on the season with the win after throwing 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball and finishing with five strikeouts and only two hits allowed.

Chase Cockrell (Bastrop, La.) led the Hinds offense in game two, as he finished 2-3 with a double and RBI, but the Bobcats held the Hinds hitters to only six hits and two runs to salvage the doubleheader.

Layne Tedder (Vicksburg) gave the Eagles a solid effort on the hill in game two at Jones, but was charged with the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season. He threw 4.2 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) and had three strikeouts to only one walk on the outing.

In Friday's first game versus Delta, the Eagles received another offensive outburst from Wilson, who had three hits and a run scored in the 7-4 loss to the Trojans.

Quinton Logan (Natchez) added two hits and an RBI and Cockrell had an RBI double.

Timothy Jordan (Laurel) took the loss on the mound for the Eagles in game one.

Wilson led the way once again in game two, as he was the lone Hinds player to pick up multiple hits, but his two singles weren't enough, and Hinds fell to Mississippi Delta, 3-1.

Trent Driver (Raymond) was credited with the loss in Friday's game two.
